Victim versus Survivor

Victim implies that the person who suffered trauma is weak and/or unable to respond to their situation. Survivor is a word that denotes ability to cope and move on; to integrate the traumatic event into the context of their lives and to accept it, rather than avoiding or “burying” the incident.
