Versohung

Hegel … proposed that Versohung (reconciliation) played a crucial role in allowing the modern, ‘alienated’ individual to feel ‘at home’ in the world. But it was also Hegel who observed that reconciliation did not simply mean replacing enmity with love, estrangement with friendship, or conflict with harmony. This may be the outcome of reconciliation, but the process itself is not an erasure of all the negativities in the social world. Rather, Hegel proposed that the sense of being ‘at home’ in the world depended on coming to terms with both the positives and the negatives of that world.
