Dialogue versus Spliced Monologues

If you listen to most people, most of the time they are talking in turns, but past one another. They are usually not engaging the other’s ideas and are not so willing to be affected by conflicting opinions. I think this is because ‘discussion’ is often about displaying your own knowledge/getting things off your chest than listening.
